Underfloor heating circuits are designed to be continuous, without any joints within screeds or under floor boarding.
However, accidents do happen and if it is not practical or possible to replace the entire circuit length, couplings and pipe can be used to replace the damaged section.
It is strongly advised that a pressure test is carried out after any repair work to prove the integrity of the system prior to re-screeding or replacing boards.
It is also a wise precaution to record the exact location of each and every coupling, leaving details on the as installed drawings.
Repairs should be carried out by a competent person - contact us for advice.
If an underfloor heating system is over 10 years old then it's probably time to call in an expert to check the system over.
Actuators, roomstats, mixers and pumps all have reasonable service lives but after a decade of use the possibility of breakdowns increases.
Recent developments in underfloor heating controls have helped fuel efficiency. Weather compensation with night set back features switched by text messaging have revolutionised the market.
Wireless controls have also come on in leaps and bounds in the last few years - controllability is essential if carbon emissions are to be effectively cut.
